The Community Alcohol Information Program's "Impaired
Driver Intervention Program" (IDIP) has been designed to help
people. Throughout the course sessions we will be sharing ideas, facts and points of view
about drinking, and also about drinking and driving.
This course has been designed to assist individuals in
creating an awareness about what alcohol is and how it affects various aspects of one's
life. Through this awareness and understanding each person will be given the opportunity
to honestly assess what role alcohol really plays in their life and what changes may be
needed to be made by them to prevent further alcohol-related problems in their life.
Clients will become aware of the scope of the alcohol abuse problems, their personal
drinking / drinking-driving habits and patterns, their responsibilities in using or not
using alcohol, how the use of alcohol can affect families and jobs, and what the sources
of further help are should they feel they want or need it.
It is not the intent of this program to advocate
abstinence (not using alcohol at all), but rather to promote awareness and factual
information as it pertains to personal alcohol use. By providing clients with this
information, it is our intent to help them assess the role of alcohol and/or drugs in
their lives and to make appropriate, responsible decisions on their use or non-use of
alcohol and/or drugs, and to help them seek further sources of help which they may need
beyond this program.
It is the hope of this program that clients will keep an
open mind and that they will participate freely throughout their course sessions. The
instructors and the rest of the staff are here to help in whatever way we can. Clients
should feel free to talk with us, share their points of view, or ask any questions that
they may have.
