Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Community Alcohol Information Program, Inc.?

The Community Alcohol Information Program (CAIP) is a private, non-profit agency founded in 1977 to provide alcohol education, assessment, and evaluation services to persons convicted of alcohol related offenses in New Hampshire. Our main office is located in Penacook, with service locations in Nashua and Laconia.

What is the Impaired Driver Intervention Program?

The Impaired Driver Intervention Program (IDIP) is a program mandated by the State of New Hampshire for persons who have been convicted of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). In order to have the NH Division of Motor Vehicles restore your privilege to operate a motor vehicle, you must complete an IDIP program. The NH Division of Motor Vehicles cannot restore your driver's license or operating privileges until you have successfully completed an IDIP program.

What is Required of Me to Complete an IDIP Program?

You must complete 20 hours consisting of an Intake Interview, Group Sessions, and an Evaluation and Assessment Interview. Successful completion of an IDIP program, by law, requires you to complete the 20 hours, plus you must meet any further counseling requirements, if any, arising out of the final Evaluation and Assessment Interview. Thus, timeliness in contacting and enrolling into the IDIP program becomes very important to ensure that you complete ail requirements in a minimum period of time.

The first step to enroll into CAIP's lDIP program is to contact our main office in Penacook (753-8181 or toll free 1-800-660-4246) to schedule your intake interview appointment. You may schedule your Intake Interview appointment at any one of our three locations: Penacook, Laconia, or Nashua. The Intake Interview takes approximately one hour to complete and consists of filling out paperwork, setting up a schedule of class sessions, and a schedule of payments (if needed).

What Paperwork Do I Need to Bring to the Program?

At the time of your Intake Interview appointment you will need to bring:

  1. The pink copy of the court referral form (IDIP-016) you received in court,
  2. An original certified copy of your drivers license record.

NH driving records may be obtained (at a cost of $10.00) at Financial Responsibility Office of the NH Division of Motor Vehicles (603-271-2322). If you have held an out-of-state license within the past three years, you must also contact the motor vehicle division in that state to obtain a certified copy of your driving record from that state.

How Much Does the IDIP Program Cost?

The IDIP program course fee is set by the NH Office of Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention at $460.00. Payment plans can be arranged on an individual basis.

Payments at the Intake Interview must be made by money order ONLY. Should you fail to keep a scheduled Intake Interview appointment without 24 hour notice, a $50.00 fee will be charged in addition to the course fee.
